Reduce Mechanical Costs using Mitsubishi QD77MS Synchronous Motion

A local machine tool builder required controls design from scratch for four identical automated tools that would each lift and rotate a 20,000 lb. load.  The tool required 2-axis synchronized vertical motion, without the use of mechanical drive shafts, in order to reduce the tool’s overall footprint, simply mechanical design, and reduce overall equipment cost;

Since they didn’t have controls engineers on staff, outside help was required and they wisely chose an Authorized Mitsubishi Integrator.  Our customer stated, “PCS will definitely be our ‘Go To’ resource for controls design.”

This system included the following equipment:

  • Nook ActionJack MSJ Machine Screw Jack
  • Motion Index Drives RT-400 Rotary Index Drive
  • Mitsubishi Q00U PLC
  • Mitsubishi QD77MS2 Simple Motion Module
  • Mitsubishi GT1150HS HMI Touch Pendant
  • Mitsubishi FR-E740 VFD
  • Mitsubishi MR-J3 Servo Amplifiers
  • Mitsubishi HF-SP Servo Motors w/ Brake
  • NSD MRE ABSOCODER Absolute Position Sensor
  • NSD VS-Q62B ABSOCODER PLC Controller
